I think it would be extremely handy to have Super Grub 2 Disk in a USB so that I can drop some ISO files in a subdirectory of the USB and grub will autodetect them and let me choose one of them to boot from without having to burn any CD.
I've tried using unetbootin to install the Super Grub 2 Disk ISO into the USB drive but it didn't work (on boot, the syslinux screen just resets the countdown each time the boot option is selected).
My USB is bootable.. I was able to install grub into it using the following comand: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/sdb1 /dev/sdb But I think it installed an earlier version instead of 2.0, and it won't let me use the scripts from Super Grub 2 Disk, it doesn't even have a /boot/grub/grub.cfg file. These are the files in the /boot/grub/ of my USB after the grub-install: default device.map e2fs_stage1_5 fat_stage1_5 installed-version jfs_stage1_5 minix_stage1_5 reiserfs_stage1_5 stage1 stage2 xfs_stage1_5 When I boot from the USB I get a 'grub>' prompt and no menu. Adding a custom grub.cfg manually didn't change anything.
Any idea?

It may happen that your OS will not boot, the boot loader might be corrupted. What to do in this case? Fortunately, there are several specialized utilities that will help you to load the operating system and then fully restore the boot loader. Earlier I already wrote about restoring GRUB boot loader. You can find similar articles at this link. So What can do Rescatux?

On the first screen that you will see, you will be able to choose the upload option: is a Rescatux 32-bit, Rescatux 64 bit, or Rescatux autodetect. There is also the opportunity to load only the Super Grub2 Disk, which was mentioned above. Leave the first paragraph - Rescatux autodetect. Detect any OS Selecting this option SG2D (Super GRUB2 Disk) will scan all partitions on all disks with the aim to detect operating system and then create a menu where you can select any of the OS found for subsequent launch. If You want to view commands or to edit a menu item, you can press 'e' and then 'ctrl+x' to launch on performance. Supports the following OS: - GNU/Linux (although at the time of writing this manual support for separate /boot partition is not implemented); - FreeBSD; - Mac OSX/Darwin; - MicrosoftWindows - all versions; What can do Super Grub2 Disk?
